What Makes Our Community Unique
North Star Yard stands out because it connects a very specific way of living with a practical housing format. The community is not just themed around practical city support; its common spaces, daily rhythms, and membership path are designed so that practical city support becomes part of ordinary life rather than a decorative amenity.
About This Community
North Star Yard grew out of a truth many city households know well: urban life can be culturally rich and still be punishingly expensive and isolating. The plan includes apartments and larger homes, a common dining room, flexible play and homework rooms, shared outdoor areas, and enough proximity that daily help becomes possible. Because the group is still forming, prospective members can influence the membership path, common-space priorities, operating culture, and the degree of shared infrastructure that makes sense. Founder Dana Mercer brings a practical, human-scale approach to the project and is focused on keeping the place useful, welcoming, and specific rather than polished for its own sake. The goal is not to promise a perfect lifestyle. It is to create a residential setting where ordinary daily life becomes easier, more social, and more intentional. People can keep private lives, work, host family, and make practical decisions while having a real neighborhood around them. What matters most is repeated contact: meals, shared tools, walks, work sessions, quiet mornings, and the informal help that turns adjacent households into a community.
